Not so happy days... :-(

Right now.. I am so full of anger and disdain for my country/nationality that I just feel like tearing my passport to pieces and burning it to hell (good riddance to bad rubbish). We Nigerians are proud to be hustlers.. we can take anything life throws at us but at times.. its just too much and enough most definitely has to be enough. The anger I am feeling right now needs an outlet which is why I have decided to vent my anger here (so you guys will just have to bear with me)

Why am I so angry?

Well.. I did say a couple of days ago that I may be going to china for my rig exposure; Indonesia too was a possibility being explored. I came into the office this morning after a nice weekend (possibly the best one yet in India) to find a request from Indonesia asking me to produce a “Drug Free Certificate” Can someone please tell me what the heck a “Drug Free Certificate” is? Apparently, Indonesia has problems with Nigerians who are known to be drug traffickers in the Asian continent and since I am a Nigerian passport holder… I have to get one of these. To make matters worse, nobody knows what this certificate is and how to obtain it. What am I supposed to do now? Even the people in Indonesia are telling me that I have to produce the document and they don’t know how to go about obtaining it.. very helpful indeed

The days are going by, I have just over a month left before I go to school and I need to get rig exposure in this time.

So again, “Great Nigeria” is trying to screw me over. The country has such a bad reputation and we the innocent, law abiding people trying to make a life, a career have to suffer for the iniquities of a very small percentage of the population.

I don’t know how I am going to get out of this one. I feel so down right now and I am just worrying about getting the rig exposure. (Takes deep breadth)

All is well…

Oh.. and I tried to call the Nigerian Consulate in India for help and guess what… the numbers listed on the internet are all obsolete.. Nice work

No doubt there is a Nigerian Embassy in New Delhi but the various telephone numbers available on the internet are all inaccurate. Anyhow.. my very good sources in Naija have informed me that this document is something I need to obtain from a police station in Naija e.g Alagbon Police Station. But then again.. I guess even a drug trafficker can obtain this document. This is the sad thing about the situation. I will try to get this document when next I go to Naija next..You never know.. I may have to prove to someone in the future that I am not a drug trafficker.. Ridiculous!

I remember my husband having to get one of these.... and yes it is obtainable in Nigeria. It might not be worth the paper it is printed on due to the fact that anyone can probably bribe and get it, but it is worth getting just so you can show it. After all, how else can you prove you are not a drug dealer. Good luck with the Naija embassies, and if you ever find them make a good friend that can help you out....

Wanda,

I have a friend who just visited Naija recently and she was able to get this Drug Free Document from some police station in Lagos. She has hooked me up with how to 'get' it. I should be going to Naija soon myself so I should be able to do it there. As for the Naija embassy, i really hope to God that I don't have to contact them for anything during my time here cos that would be like trying to catch a Mirage..
